Welcome to Leadership Training, Cadets:
Leadership is the ability to inspire greatness in others through your own example. I am Rear Admiral Mendez. We have something in common, you and I: we both learned a thing or two about leadership from one of the Fleet's best. As XO of the battleship Carson, I saw my share of battle under the leadership of Captain Alday. If there is one lesson on leadership the captain shared that stands out above the rest its that you NEVER expect more of your crew than they should expect of you. Being an officer of the Fleet is about more than a fancy title, badge, or symbol; its about being a symbol...of strength, determination, discipline, and fearlessness. In this class, you will learn to lead by example, because I will expect nothing less than perfection from you. The way you speak to others, the way you carry yourself, the way you inspire greatness in others, these are the habits and behaviors I will look at most closely before I recommend any of you as candidates for graduation from this academy. Your training isn't about to being...it began the minute you signed up for this class. So far...I'm not impressed.
